thinking about the birth dates of the smokers
the preferences, the regular things
that fill their carts, their baskets
seeing the world through the lenses
closeup or landscape, different visions
detail and context, clarity and ambiguity
the little things that matter day to day
cost-accounting in a fund accounting world
knowing the beans well, on a first name basis
the multiple uses of each space, each room,
remembering numbers, dates, relationships
hidden patterns, parts and piece, little factors
compartmentalized, focused, burdening the equation
the cost of the whole enterprise
making the ledgers balance
beans lined end to end…
