Grieving the Creator

The sacrifice of Christ
in that moment real
the descent from heaven
going to the cross for us

Grieving the creator
our sin a stain
marking us ever
separated from God

In his sacrifice
dying for us to atone
paying the wages of our sin
dying that we may live

God in his sorrow
the darkness of Good Friday
weeping for the son
going to the grave for us

Abraham faithful in sacrificing
his first born son Isaac,
God providing substitute lamb;
Christ becoming the sacrificial lamb
with no substitution;
the pain of the Father on Good Friday
when his son died for us.

Christ was the one priest able to make
one sacrifice for all time

John 11:35
“Jesus wept” for his friend Lazarus,
though he knew he would rise

Jeremiah 31:15
Rachel crying for her children
who are no more
