same cries in different tellings
what Christ shouted, cried out
the sheer agony of his utterance
His word on the cross
“Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?”
ancient words, their meaning
abandoned, forsaken
left there by His Father
the one who called Him
anointed at Jordan
drinking of that cup
submitting to our God
There left, abandoned
forsaken on the cross
Messiah, Savior
paying our awful cost
