Stretched Taut

Held in constant tension
pulled to her limit
stretched taut, frozen,
across the breach, the chasm,
no rest, no relenting, danger,
a constant, a reality,
holding on in sacrifice,
in duty to her country…
 
I can hear the tension,
the tremor in her spirit,
words she has spoken before,
when she was asked by others,
letting down her guard,
being brutally honest,
acknowledging how tired she is
stretched to her limit…
