Humble, like our Master

We are all Servants in the kingdom,
Children of the living God, siblings,
following the example of Jesus,
becoming humble, like our Master,
taking up the towel, the cross…

Following the example of our Master,
becoming a servant to our sisters, our brothers,
for none of us are greater than anyone else,
kneeling before our neighbors, the others,
washing each other’s feet…

God knelt before the unworthy

God became humble, the Servant,
Christ lowered himself to the floor,
God knelt before the unworthy,
The betrayer, the denier, those too afraid,
Washing the feet of the disciples, of each of us,
Washing us with water, with His blood,
With the grace of God manifest, evident,
Christ washed us with God’s love…

Washing the feet of the disciples – 2 – v2

Washing the feet of the disciples,
taking His clothes off, His robe,
kneeling before each one of them,
washing them with water, His blood,
washing them with God’s love…

The Master become their Servant,
washing the feet of the disciples,
all of them unworthy, disobedient,
all of them would betray Him,
would deny Him, they would run away…

Setting an example for them,
not exalting himself on the earth,
God on the ground, their servant,
humbly kneeling before each one,
Washing the feet of the disciples…

Foot Washing – v2

No last supper,
no holy meal,
a foot washing,
instead, demonstrating
servanthood to the last.

Washing their feet
as a slave, a servant to them;
He who would be King
who rode the donkey,
who offered all
for all of us.

the dust of the road – v2

on His knees before Judas
knowing he would betray Him
God washing
the dust of the road
kneeling in service

what greater love
washing their feet
showing the way of the servant
even serving the betrayer,
washing all of us.

the towel of the servant

the towel of the servant,
a symbol of Christ,
the mantle we wear
our yoke in this life

service our calling,
even to those who hurt us,
loving as Christ loves
as He loves us

the towel of the servant,
the rugged cross,
service and sacrifice
the measure of His life

a life lesson in this moment,
in the dust on that towel,
the road we must travel
what we will face

sharing love and mercy,
compassion complete,
dying on our cross
washing Judas’ feet.

A lesson of service

before the cross
before the cup
before intoning the words
my body, my blood
before the sacred meal
the new covenant
Christ taught one more lesson
with these words of love
a lesson of service
washing their feet
becoming the servant
one his hands and knees
washing the dust off
making them clean
a lesson of service
for all who believe
