The Morsel of Bread – v20

In that moment, in the upper room

after Christ washed their feet

after he had met with the Sanhedrin

the coins exchanged, the die cast

the time moving forward, that night

the Passover meal begun

the Master speaking, raising the bread

What must he have felt, sharing in the meal

the invocation, the intoning of the words

these words of the teacher, the Master, Rabbi

changing the ancient words of remembrance

saying something entirely new, a new covenant

the morsel of bread dipped, shared from His hands

Christ’s words to go, to do that which is planned quickly

What must he have thought, in that moment

the doubt, the confusion, steps set in motion

quickly, unable to return, to pull back

the wheels of time turning

His body, His blood

His sacrifice, present

dripping on his hands

wanting to follow

to share his witness

his story of healing

the power of Christ

told to stay, to stay

to grow where you’re planted

to spread seeds, a harvest

a bounty, spreading ripples

sharing richly, his story
