bits of sand at the bottom
of the jar,
something tangible, proxies
for memories,
images, smells, sensations,
tactile,
holding the movement of
the tides,
the essence, the feeling
of vacation.
shells, colored sea glass,
bits of driftwood, a
feather,
placed carefully together,
layered,
touching the wet sand, the
grit, the water,
a tangible talisman, emotive,
evocative,
gathering moments, seconds
truly,
the essence, the days of
our lives.
