Mast Pines

Ramrod straight, rising to the heavens,
a gift of creation, of the forest, the woods,
but taken too quickly, too many,
in colonialization, in conquest, in trade,
the New World ripe for the raping, the taking,
of the gold, of the riches, of the mast pines.

So many taken, the same mentality today,
in fracking, in mining, developing the land,
The sovereignty of man, the dominion,
the right to the taking, the harvest, the bounty,
Too few left for the future, sustainability still,
about the humans, the taking, ad nauseum.

Mast Pines

Really about New England but I saw some pines
in Treaty Park, St. Augustine, FL, which spoke
to be about this memory…
