Relying on You only

Why is it that we come to You, Lord,
Only in our trials, in our struggles,
Crying out to God to save us,
To lift us from the pit, the well,
The valley of our own making?
 
We should come to You first,
In prayer, in supplication, joyful,
Relying on You only, only,
In every breath, in every step,
In every moment of our lives.
 
Praising You on the mountaintop,
Praising You in the valley, in our trials,
Relying on You only, only,
For You are our one hope,
For meaning, for joy in this life.
