on my darkest day – v3

on my darkest day, driving home,
when I hit my rock bottom,
in the midst of my anguish and torment
my pain raw, feeling alone, empty,
caught in my sin, my shame
years of secrets…
 
In silence, You approached me,
You sat down beside me
You were there with me
You were present with me,
almost like sitting Shiva,
listening when I was ready…
 
in those awful moments,
many years dying, in truth,
a life of denying my sin,
wanting it to be special,
secret lies exposed,
hitting my rock bottom…
 
Feeling so alone, so betrayed,
empty in that moment, shaking,
sobbing uncontrollably,
not knowing what to do…
You cared, You listened,
You were present with me…
 
God made me turn onto the street,
into the church’s parking lot,
opening Your door that day,
shaking off my darkness,
making a way into the light,
bringing me back to You…
 
That was such a gift, holy,
feeling Your arm around me,
like the prodigal I had come home…
A moment of healing, beginning,
My life was changed forever
when You were present with me…
