beyond the lee of the mountain

downwind from Katahdin

the great mountain, the sentinel,

the terminus of the trail

beyond the lee of the mountain

within its influence, its passion

pushed by the wind, the motion,

roaring down its flanks

off into the distance

across this land, this plain
