You never said the words

you showed me the best you could,
with the things you did,
little things, caring, for us,
offering guidance, your strength,
but you never said the words,
how I longed to hear them, Dad,
that you loved me here on earth,
I know you did through what you did,
But how I needed to hear,
“I love you, Ray”, instead…
