bubbling at the surface,
when I am not in control,
at the mercy of others
those who would harm me,
who would throw me in the pit…
my first instinct is to fight,
to pick up a weapon,
to run headlong into battle
to fight the good fight,
or at least I tell myself so…
at the mercy of others
my anger at the surface
my autonomy, my agency,
taken by another, fettered,
with me fighting at the bit…
my ancient responses
deep down within me
needing to let them go
to walk in God’s freedom
for healing to begin to come…
letting go of my anger
through prayer and more efforts
getting down to the root
to my reason for being angry
many decades ago…
when I am not in control,
