Winter afternoon bright
& sunny
green against the gray
eastern hemlock luminous
onto asphalt shining
drawing me to bend
to lift its bough to my eye
to drink in its color.
Not knowing what to do next
transferring sprig to snow
pile
green warming,
cocoon forming,
soon to be encased
the branch entombed
in its own cave of snow.
