No, God spoke not with Aaron,
the high priest, the appointed line
of the tribes. No, God did not
receive a petition from him,
no offering on an altar.
This was the role, the duty
of the mediator, the one
to bring them out of the land
of slavery, of the Pharaohs,
The one who would bring the law
down from the mountain.
But before he would do that,
he interceded for the people
once more, to spare them
for the price of their sin;
as the Son did
the new mediator
and high priest
