Moses, on the mountain,
petitioning God, once more
to spare the people, the ones He saved
who are turning away from Him
spare them His holy wrath,
His anger, at their idolatry,
their unfaithfulness
before the covenant in stone
the words of the law
given to them
mediating already
in the breach of our failure
arguing for mercy
when wrath was justified
