The potter shapes the clay
each one a precious creature
unique and set apart
known from before
forming from within the earth
up from the living ground
fired by life, the quickening
of each breath
colored by experience,
perhaps chipped by sin,
patched cracks by your
loving, saving grace
Broken vessel at the end
releasing the spirit
held within
the earthenware jar
