So many times, like a teacher in a classroom
choosing who will pray, over the food
Their hands, their bodies thrust into the air
as students who know the math problem
who have a thought, an answer to share
Each of them asking to be the one
that meal, that moment, to be the one to pray
Competitive, the sisters, to speak to God
We often share the prayer, the amen, the words
so that they may participate,
join together in the blessing
all of praying together
