Sermon, "Carrying Out God’s Recipe!!", by Erica Berberena, Suncook United Methodist Church, August 14, 2011

Be Ready for God – Our First Secret Ingredient is “Be Ready for God”. In the Bible the Isrealites had to be ready for God to say it was time to leave Egypt. In the world today Being ready for God means that you’re ready to do what he tells you and that you’re also ready to listen. Just like our Bible Bite said, “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” Many disciples in the world today would not be who they are if they had not have done this.

Our Second Secret Ingredient is, “Give Happily to God.” In the Bible the Israelites gave happily to God, they gave him the First Fruits of their labor. In the world today Giving happily to God means that you’re helping your fellow people. Our offering is also a way to give happily to God. Just like the Bible Bite said, “don’t forget to Do good and share what you have, Because God is pleaded with these Kind of Sacrifices.”

Our Third Secret Ingredient is “Believe Fully in Jesus.” In the Bible many people at a Festival believed in Jesus But some didn’t. In the world today believing in Jesus means that you know that he is in your heart. It also means that you know he lives and that there will be a time when he comes again. Our Bible Bite said, “Believe in God, believe also in me.”

Our Fourth Secret Ingredient is “Remember Jesus Often”. In the Bible, Jesus and his disciples celebrated Passover together, which he Broke Bread as his Body and gave it to them and he took a cup of wine and gave that to them. In the world today communion is the way to Remember Jesus often. Even worshipping helps us do that. Our Bible Bite Said, “Do this in Remembrance of me.”

Our Fifth and Final Secret Ingredient is “Celebrate God Forever.” In the Bible Peter went out into the world to tell the good news and celebrate Jesus and God. In the world today, celebrating God means that you’re proclaiming his word to the world and that you always believe in him. It also means you celebrate the life and death of Jesus. Our final Bible Bite said, “I will cause your name to be celebrated in all generations; therefore the people will praise you forever and ever.”
We, as Christians, if we follow these Five ingredients, we could proclaim God to the world, live eternally with him, and make this world a Better Place.
Amen.
