By the fire, crackling sparks,
living flame, licked the wood
dancing before the starlight
before the pine forest,
beyond the camp.
We gathered there, drawn
by the flame, the warmth,
Hearing a different,
an ancient voice.
Her words rumbling
down from generations past.
Hearing a piece of her oral history
our common walk
in this place, Turtle Island.
