The disciples, the followers
praying, hiding alone, cloistered
hidden in the upper room, set apart
waiting, for what they did not know
a promise from Christ to be revealed
A flash of light of sound of motion
roaring wind and fire of the spirit
swirling, rushing, churning, spinning around them
forever changed, the whole of our history,
a church born in that instant,
men speaking in tongues they do not know
able to reach others, others from distant lands
able to proclaim, with power, with authority
Timid no more, on Pentecost reborn
messengers for the king
to the ends of the earth
