A Single Strand of Gossamer
Thoughts of the day
running through my mind
moving to get her to the school
to be on time
A single strand of gossamer
breaking against my cheek
wondering what the spider must have thought
of catching prey like me
The single strand invisible
as I rushed along
yet so memorable the way it snacked
causing me to pause
To marvel at creation
all there is to see
all that we miss
rushing in our busyness

earlier poem:
---------------
Cling-wrap webs
Over the dark black woodchips
the wet spider webs
three of them set apart
spaces between the posts of the fence
beside the sidewalk
warming from the downpours last night
July morning warming
cooled by the moving air
Like cling-wrap
more than gauze
yet surely saturated
as if the thin film of plastic
could hold endless water
Clear, yet defined
reflecting the light back
up to me, to catch my attention
drawing me to look
even as I am walking by
to pause enough
to memorize the form
the image of this scene
that I could take it with me
a wonder for my day

String of Pearls
Foggy morning
On the Vineyard
In Aquinnah
Wet chair, hot coffee
Sip in the heat
Shake the daze
Camera and film
Sandals snap as I walk
In the early morning
Before the island awakes
Misty morning
Full of promise
For a skilled watcher
Of moment and place
Wet green
Lush
Looking for a web
Ready to pose
A string of pearls
Hovered before a backdrop
Bowed by the wait
Of the night
A long cord
Tacky to hold the drops
As drops
My reflection in each as I approached
To steal the scene
With closeup lens
Centered and balanced
Enlarged and framed
Hovering now
On my wall
To conjure the moment
On the path
