I remember the rain – v2
I was drinking, I knew that
in the dorm, maybe at a bar
wearing a grey corduroy jacket
how many I don’t remember
too many I’m sure
getting there somehow
standing on the jetty
in the pitch blackness
the tide coming in
crashing on my footsteps
I remember the rain
splashing on my face
the taste of the salt water
only then the silence
waking in my bed
I don’t know how I lived
how I got off the jetty
the tide coming in
only that is was slippery
in the middle of the storm
I discovered red candle wax
a stain on the sleeve
was it under the tarp
in the back of the truck
I will never know
It never came out
a permanent marker
each time I washed it
of that night, that moment
out there in the storm
