a spasm of senses
a burst of memory
cracking open the soda,
my A & W Root Beer
opening the bottle
tasting the vanilla
bite of the fizz
ice cream float
as I did 50 years ago
a cascade of taste
scent that lingered
sights of the drive-in
shouts and laughs of family
jostling in the hot car
