Their stones

The yoke we carry
upon our weary necks
not the yoke God gave us
one we created
carrying their stones
trying to be helpful
but making ourselves tired
losing joy in the process
feeling like it is too much
carrying too great a load
when we cry out to God

In truth it is ourselves
seeking to help others
in not trusting in God
we become tired, burdened
the weight in our wagon too much
upon our shoulders, around our necks
the yoke becoming too heavy
carrying rocks, stones that are not
ours to carry, not our gifts
which God has given us
for the tasks on our path

When we accept the requests
bearing others’ burdens
their call from God
we become tired ourselves
carrying stones that are
not ours to carry
when the yoke is light
that which God gives us
to carry in this life
using our gifts for the kingdom
for the glory of God
