filtered through us

we cannot claim bias
on the news, from our neighbor
we are just as guilty
whether we know it or not
the color we think of as red
within our own perception
everything filtered
through our own lives
all reality colored
whether we believe it or not
through the prism
the lens of our understanding
all reality colored
filtered through us
distorted somehow
by bias, by memory
all that we are
each moment of our lives
nothing transparent
as they truly are
we see them
each interaction,
each news story
through our eyes
we see them as we are.
