Resentments

ephemera written in stone

chiseled on our hearts, our flesh,
scar tissue layered over open wounds,
we must never carry…
 
grit in the gears
burrs under the saddle
sand in our bathing suits,
an itchy clothes label…
 
if we had forgiven, completely,
if we had let go, forever,
our list of resentments, our hurts,
the anger that we carry,
would be empty, empty,
a forgotten memory,
We would have a blank sheet…
 
smooth skin untrammeled
silky clean sheets
an azure sky above us
beauty in the streets…
