They made of me a May Pole
Last night in the narthex, the entry
Of our church,
Free of chairs and clutter
For late summer cleaning
Skipping, laughing, reeling,
They danced around me
While fitfully sharing
The apple Ruth brought me for my dinner
All that was missing
Was the ribbon wrapped round me
Ever tighter as the dancers danced
