She had sugar, little bits,
unauthorized pieces, shards,
of the gingerbread house.
Our centerpiece no more.
We were outside in the warm January night
having burgers on the grill
chatting with the neighbors
A cackle heralded her joining
a war cry from the house
bursting outside,
around and around the yard
Boundless energy
of our littlest princess
Wild laughter in circles
where the snow should be
Burn it off, Girl!
