Oh she can’t wait,
sitting so good, so quietly
but oh so expectantly
in the hallway, waiting for her turn
to apply for kindergarten
where she will be going in the fall
not next year, not today, not too soon
but, no, she is going “in the fall”
precise understanding, or at least a bit far off
her turn in the school with her big sister
hoping to follow in her footsteps
play in the same room, same teacher
longing to be big, but holding mom so close
waiting in the hallway to register
for her class to begin, in the fall
