WE don’t torture, once
a clear mantra, creed
truth about our nation
what we would never do
No more, no longer
rationalize a little violation
incremental erosion
a crumbling of the moral authority
of our whole people
How soon will we wake up
How soon will we reclaim
our principles
How long will the world
doubt our resolve once more
We can only hope,
their memory is short
