but for the Christians I know – v3

many have been hurt
estranged from the church
driven away from God
by those who claim him
shoving their theology
orthodoxy, their way of knowing God
as if they were right, certain
certain they understood all of scripture
as if their understanding was the only way
to truly know our God
the phrase too accurate,
(there must be tears in heaven) -
“I would be a Christian
but for the Christians I know.”
