God’s Math: Small=Large…

Prayer for God to speak through me...
Please Stand for the reading of the Gospel according to Mathew…chapter 13…verses 31-32. List to the Word of God for you and I…His planters in the vineyard. Read Matthew 13 scripture from The Voice:
Matthew 13:31-32 The Voice (VOICE)
31 Jesus told them another parable.
Jesus: The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a sower took and planted in his field. 32 Mustard seeds are minute, tiny—but the seeds grow into trees. Flocks of birds can come and build their nests in the branches.

Good Moring… Have you ever wanted to do something meaningful in the world but felt you were to small to make any difference? We can see the world around us and its despair and chaos and be overwhelmed by its enormity. How can we be expected to change the tide of the world when it is just too big of an undertow? We are up against odds that are just too great for us to overcome… Can we truly make a difference with what we have…with what we have…even though it seems small in the scope of things?
We have embarked on our journey into the desert places.
©     We have asked for the “Healing Rain” to fall upon not only the land in which we are going but also in our own lives so that we may be filled to overflowing and be poured out onto a desolate, arid land.
©     We are “Armed and Dangerous” with the Armor of God…ready to face the perils of this land in which we are planting…looking for…sprouts of hope…of joy…of peace…and of love.
©     (We have realized…in order to be who we are called to be…we have to be willing to “Share and Share Alike”  knowing that Jesus is clear that we are called to do as His light bearers in the world. He was sent to free the captives of oppression…captives of this world…captives of sin…we too are sent to do likewise…
©     We will also need to nurture that light by spending time with t’s source…we need to “Reignite the Light’ within us.
©     Also, that we need to have a place where we can find peace and hope…a place where we can lead others s they too can encounter the Jesus of the Word…We find peace and we find hope in “Community.”
©     We have also come to realize that God’s definition of family is quite different than that of humanity… World=Exclusive vs God=Inclusive… “We are Family”

So…here we are in the desert place and we just see nothing but arid dryness…there is no hope of rain on the horizon. And the vastness of the dry bones around us just brings us to our knees feeling hopeless and inept for the job… We look up to heaven and say why God…why have you sent me here? This is just too much…I am too small to help in this fight You have put me in… Then comes the answer…You may be small, l but I am bigger than anything and with me…your smallness…becomes something bigger than life. I am in the business of using small things for my Glory…remember…

Small things for His Glory. I am reminded that “Dynamite may be small, but it is powerful enough to take down a mountain…” God’s math is this…small=large when it is in His hands. Remember in the scripture this morning it talked about the mustard seed…which is small the smallest seed I believe…and what it accomplishes… Small is large in God’s hands

Not really convinced yet? Let me share some scripture to back up my statement about God’s math… (You might want to write these down…you will need them one day for encouragement… I guarantee it...)

The Feeding of the 5,000:
John 6:5-11 The Voice (VOICE)
But when Jesus looked up, He could see an immense crowd coming toward Him. Jesus approached Philip.
Jesus (to Philip): Where is a place to buy bread so these people may eat?
Jesus knew what He was planning to do, but He asked Philip nonetheless. He had something to teach, and it started with a test.
Philip: I could work for more than half of a year[a] and still not have the money to buy enough bread to give each person a very small piece.
Andrew, the disciple who was Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up.
Andrew: I met a young boy in the crowd carrying five barley loaves and two fish, but that is practically useless in feeding a crowd this large.
Jesus: 10 Tell the people to sit down.
They all sat together on a large grassy area. Those counting the people reported approximately 5,000 men—not including the women and children—sitting in the crowd. 11 Jesus picked up the bread, gave thanks to God, and passed it to everyone. He repeated this ritual with the fish. Men, women, and children all ate until their hearts were content.
Phillip was looking at the world as Andrew was looking at Jesus In worldly view there was no way to be able to afford enough food for these people. The task was to l large…come on…really 5000. But no… In God’s in hands…in God incarnates hands...in the hands of the Word becoming flesh…it was more than enough...that small amount…there were eve leftovers… And you said you were too small…God uses the small for His big Kingdom…

David and Goliath:
1 Samuel 17:38-50 The Voice (VOICE)
38 So Saul outfitted David in the king’s own armor: a bronze helmet to protect his head and a coat of mail to protect his chest. 39 David strapped on Saul’s sword outside the armor and then discovered he could not move because he was not used to the restrictions of the weighty armor.
David: I’m not used to these things. How can I attack an enemy when I can’t even walk? So he removed every bit of Saul’s armor. He would fight the Philistine as he had fought those lions and bears.
40 He took his staff in his hand and went to the stream to choose five smooth stones, which he kept in a pouch in his shepherd’s bag. He had his sling ready as he approached the Philistine.
41 The Philistine, with his shield-bearer in front of him, came closer to David. 42 When he saw that David was only a healthy and handsome boy, Goliath’s eyes filled with contempt.
Goliath: 43 Am I a dog that you come to beat me with a stick?
And he cursed David, invoking the names of his Philistine gods.
Goliath: 44 Come here, and I will feed your flesh to the birds of the air and the wild animals of the fields.
David: 45 You come to me carrying a sword and spear and javelin as your weapons, but I come armed with the name of the Eternal One, the Commander of heavenly armies, the True God of the armies of Israel, the One you have insulted. 46 This very day, the Eternal One will give you into my hands. I will strike you down and cut off your head, and I will feed the birds of the air and the wild animals of the fields with the flesh of your Philistine warriors. Then all the land will know the True God is with Israel, 47 and all of those gathered here will know that the Eternal One does not save by sword and spear. The battle is the Eternal One’s, and He will give you into our hands.
48 When the Philistine stood up and approached, David ran toward the line of battle to meet him. 49 As quick as a flash, he reached into his bag, put a stone in his sling, and launched it at the Philistine, hitting him in the head. The stone sank deeply into his forehead, and the Philistine fell face-first onto the ground.
50 That was how David defeated the Philistine with only a sling and a single stone, striking him down, ending his life without a sword in his hand
Saul had a worldly view of Bigger is better…You need to pull out the BIG guns to win against something as large as his foe. But David knew differently. David knew that God had protected him before so with just the sling he had and the small stones he found…he put it all in God’s hand and watched the giant fall… A small boy with small things in his hands took down Israel’s big foe… And you said you were too small…God uses the small for His big Kingdom…

But Pastor Ruth…how does this really work in todays day and aged…you know we have evolved…? Beloved…God’s Word has messages even for today for it is just as relevant as it was then and will be in the future…
1 Corinthians 1:26-28 The Voice (VOICE)
26 Look carefully at your call, brothers and sisters. By human standards, not many of you are deemed to be wise. Not many are considered powerful. Not many of you come from royalty, right? 27 But celebrate this: God selected the world’s foolish to bring shame upon those who think they are wise; likewise, He selected the world’s weak to bring disgrace upon those who think they are strong. 28 God selected the common and the castoff, whatever lacks status, so He could invalidate the claims of those who think those things are significant.
God uses us cast offs, weak, tiny, insignificant nothings…we cracked pits…for His Glory… can I get an AMEN! The world thinks we are foolish to do what we do…to care as we do…to work as we do for the betterment of humanity… But as we put things in Gods hands….as we use what we have for His glory…His math comes into play and we who are nothing become something in the kingdom of God… And you said you were too small…God uses the small for His big Kingdom…

This morning you we all give a little plastic container with some mustard seeds. Mow I know that scripture talks about the mustard seed in conjunction with faith… But let’s use this small seed for something else…another analogy… When you feel to small…when you are feeling overwhelmed by it all...when you are standing before your giant with just a sling shot and a small stone…remember, anything that is put in Gods hands will be used…God will use His math and the small will become large enough to create a tidal wave… Kind of like a pebble dropped in water. It makes a small splash, but it produces waves that can cause a tidal wave. And you said you were too small…God uses the small for His big Kingdom…

Watch the giants FALL…!

Amen
