Do not sleep on anger – v2

Do not cloud your dreams

with bile on your lips;

Do not hold onto anger

release it with a kiss.

Let go of these claims

holding your life back;

Do not sleep on anger

don’t give these minutes away.

Hear my cry for help – v3

Hear my cry for help, Lord

I am crying in the night

weeping in the darkness

in my despair, the pit

in the waters of my life

Raise me up from the dust

into Your loving arms;

Lift me from my sorrows,

come to me quickly, Lord

while I am holding on.

to herald the coming of the dawn – v2

not the dawn itself

the heralds on the towers

the watchmen on the walls

watching over the city, the people

in the darkest hours

standing watch, ready

to herald the coming of the dawn

the return of the light

before its full blossom

heralds in that night

keep watch – v2

even in the pit

in our despair

keep watch

in the night

in the dark of our walk

keep watch, waiting

as the watchmen for the morning

when God’s Kingdom comes

Christ will return

brighter than the sun.

speak in truth – v2

speak in truth

be guided by love

gently walking

the path before us

speak in grace

God within you

offer hope freely

may peace abide

speak in love

led by God’s word

gently walking

our way in this world.

our deeds – v2

our deeds, more than our words,
false professions of faith,
these define us
our distance from God

how others see us
the truth of our walk
our deeds, not our words
show whose we are

claiming Christ’s name
yet bound by the earth
lost, convicted
a stain on his grace

our words

our words of rebellion
of the things of this earth
leading us away
conformed to the world

life only in following
in answering God’s call
not holding back
giving him our all.

our thoughts

Our thoughts betray us
of the earth, sin
contrary to God’s teaching
to God’s love within

our thoughts alone
the temptations inside
known by our Master
nowhere to hide.

in us

the estrangement, rebellion
the seeds of our destruction
in us, contrary
to the will of God
only in following
in believing in Jesus
able to stand at all
our hope for tomorrow

contrary to God’s will – v3

we are the ones in the mirror
if we are honest with ourselves
the ones sinning
estranged from our God
acting on our own
in ways of this flesh
contrary to the will of God
in our filth and our waste
down in the depths
