Drawn into the story

sweat as wide as the strap of his guitar,
peace in his strumming, eyes closed,
awe in their harmonies
drawing us all in.
 
feeling the words, not just hearing,
the story he wrote, on the water,
following along with them
in their journey, their life.
 
drawn into the story, the harmonies,
the imagery alive, palpable,
but the blending of their voices magical
captured in memory, in time.

Another Coffeehouse – v2

Closing my eyes, drinking it in
thinking of Crosby, Stills and Nash
that time in Portland
listening to their harmonies,
the blending of their voices
really listening, feeling their songs
pulled me back to other nights
long, long gone bye, earlier days
lost but to memory, and these lines in reflection

Other voices, other guitars,
six and twelve-strings, strumming, singing along
Kevin, Mike, Jim, Diane, and more
with familiar folk songs,
our shared ones, of our time too

We were there, thrown together
dorm mates, classmates,
roommates, future groomsmen
guests at our weddings
people in special places
special times of our lives
echoing in the old songs they too
sing tonight in another place
