Dyke Bridge – v2

I had to go there, to see it for myself, to go there
to test the theory of an accident, a mistake
minutes, hours that changed history
while our eyes were on another Sea
Tranquility Base, the Moon.
Miles and miles away
from the slip of land,
width of a bridge
dark channel
sunken car
death
sin

Yes,
It is a place
not easy to reach
a turn against the course
of the road, the fall-line of the hill
A mistake too hard to fathom, to believe
Haunting the hopes of a family, a dynasty
the fallen son, the martyred one, and the Broken One

A thin line of pelican

seeming a mirage
in the vapor trails only
a ribbon together
moving o’er the ocean
a thin line of pelican
pulling my gaze
from my light reading
an image repeating
in the hot summer

On the hot sand

Seeking the water
the porridge on the margin
the thick wet sand, slogging
on the edge of the water

The squeak before,
each step on the shoreline
my feet swollen, pumiced,
almost callused
walking on the hot sand
in the middle of August
