we are only mere specks

our lives a breath
gathered from the gossamer
we are only mere specks
on the vastness of this earth
yet God knows us
the creator of heaven and earth
numbering the hairs of our head
writing our lives on his flesh
sending his Son to save us
held in his caress

writing us onto his flesh

the assurance of presence
of God here with us
creator, potter, Lord of all this
in the ancient words of the psalmist
written so long ago
our lives, our names
our very essence
writing us onto his flesh
the hands of the potter
marking us for his purpose
his own hands upon us
