His coming delayed

waiting for awakening

for them to proclaim Christ

to witness to his coming

to the blessed lamb

sent from heaven

to reveal God’s love

watching in sorrow

Christ’s lament, his cries

watching in sorrow

as Jerusalem turned from God

sad for the children

as a shepherd wanting to protect

to gather his people

into his loving arms

but standing back, weeping

for Zion’s children

lost by their own choices

away from the love of God

From captivity from distant lands
the diaspora, the chosen people,
when God brought us back to Zion
we sang for joy together
at God’s mercy, his provision
when God gathered the captives
from exile, back to the center
when we came back to Zion
how the streets were filled with song
at God’s mercy, his provision

captured in a bubble
wrapped by God’s grace
we were like men who dreamed
filled with God’s abundance
