The chattering of the elders - v3
Echoing across the chasm
the green space, the yard
the chattering of the elders
a debate, a protest,
high up in the treetops
in the silence of the storm.
No clouds visible
but the wind a gale
a living presence I can sense
a murmuring high above me
building, subsiding,
repeating again.
A circling cloud of movement
like a flock of birds turning
starlings, maybe ravens,
moving with the wind
the maples, the poplars, the firs,
rimming the yard.
The debate swirling, arguments,
positions spoken, rejoining
moving beyond this space
like a stamping herd of mustangs
melting into the forest
beyond our yard.
