The Same Hope - 2

We are to bear witness
to share what Christ has done for us
healing our brokenness
by the way of the cross
His sacrifice
bringing me from the dead
leading me on
by his Spirit of life
giving me hope
for each tomorrow
sharing that same hope
with all whom I meet
bearing it lightly
not as a burden
the yoke of my Savior
up on my shoulder

Suffering, for doing right

Humble in this walk
the call to servanthood
following Christ
humble in this life
Submitting to God
forgiving all others
offering our lives
as a sacrifice to grace
to walk with Christ
to carry the yoke
the slings and arrows
the taunts of the world
suffering as he did
our master before us
offering mercy, love
in the name of our Savior
to show the better way
the way of suffering
professing our faith
in the one who raised us
guided by the Spirit
in all our tomorrows
going on to glory
at the end of our days

To Proclaim the Good News

Fill up with the Spirit
alive with its power
ready to stand in the breach
between God and the world
To stand with Jesus
the living, risen Christ
filled with the Spirit
to speak with kingdom power

To proclaim the good news
release to the captives
all of us may breathe free
because of grace of God
the sacrifice of Christ
becoming the lamb, the offering
climbing the tree, Calvary
paying our price to God
making us new, holy,
redeemed of our past
leading us on to glory
to our place in paradise

Ready to Bear Witness

Not being timid
tepid in our witness
in our believe in Christ
in the rising from the dead

Ready to bear witness
to proclaim the grace poured out
to sing of his glory
oh let me scream and shout

God sent Jesus
to lift me from the grave
to redeem me with his sacrifice
his journey to the cross

Leading me to the grave
dying in baptism
rising with the Spirit’s power
to do my Master’s work

Send me Lord to bear witness
to shine your light in darkness
lead me to where I may serve
to bring you more disciples

To God’s Judgment

Teaching his message
holy word of God
sharing his teaching
as the Spirit informs us
as Christ set the example
living a life worthy
holy unto God

Submitting ourselves fully
following the Christ
picking our cross up daily
to do the work of God
yet not worrying about the conclusion
the fruits of our labors
leaving all to God’s glory
and to God’s judgment
sowing the seeds we have been given
leaving the harvest to the Lord

New beings together

given to save us

Defiling Christ’s Table

Our failure to see them
the others at the table
bringing our own food
our treasure, not the kingdom’s

Coming into worship
sitting for holy communion
our neighbors, our family hurting
yet not sharing at the table

Defiling Christ’s table
gorging on “our” bounty
claiming our own efforts
when we do not feed the needy

Not saying grace together

Sitting at the same table
not saying grace together
bringing your own bounty
as if it comes from you

Eating your own treasure
the fruits of labor
as if it comes from you
not seeking to feed your neighbor

Not saying grace together
one family, fractured
sitting together
yet denying our union

All of us sheep
all children of God
bound by the blood of the lamb
the living Savior, Christ

While our brothers struggle
to survive in this world
sitting at the table
the table of the Lord

as one family
yet gorging on our treasure

An indictment of the faithful
failing to follow Christ’s example
gorging on their wealth
why your brother starves

Keeping your riches
the gain of your efforts

The wisdom of connection
of each to the other

Finding the means
for true unity
