Wearing a Mask of Pain over Scars of Grief – v5

What Christ must have seen
in the faces of these disciples
struggling to walk along
wracked with their feelings
on their Emmaus Road

Faces in utter rebellion
failing to hold onto control
wearing a mask of pain
over scars of grief
loss that had set hold

In that moment of crisis
Christ comes to them
a stranger coming to them
Their lives shattered
the weight too much to bear

Lost on their path
Contorted, a mask upon us
Twisted masks of grief
Dejected, walking home
despairing, unbelief

Struggling in this life
faces twisted with grief
Jesus walking up beside us
A stranger speaking comfort
Offering us a message of hope

Taking up our yoke with us
walking through our trials
in the struggles of our lives
staying right besides us
Walking home with us

Mending what is Broken – v9

God must be weeping in heaven
divisions, dissension, anger,
a schism between the people
the one people of faith

To regain the mantle
the name of the Living God
redeeming what is lost
renewing us in love

Mending what is broken
tearing down the walls
gathering our people in
none to be seen as lost

fighting the yoke – v7

choosing submission
the way of the cross
but perhaps buyer’s remorse
wanting freedom too
yanking at the bit
fighting the yoke

wanting to be faithful
but timid, rebellious
afraid of the path
the unknowing, submitting,
fighting the yoke
while working the fields

we find peace – 2

we find peace
for our storms, our trials
in knowing Christ will come
to redeem us forever
we find peace in the promise
of God, of Jesus
for all that God has done
for the babe in the manger

we find love

we find love
in God’s sacrifice
the descent of Jesus
from his throne in heaven
to his manger bed
we find love
in the act of emptying
the infinite given flesh
laid in a manger bed
