The song of Ukraine
has bled into my spirit
I hear her cries
in the silence of night…
 
I have come to love her,
her noble, courageous people,
this land, this hope
that the world holds dear…
 
May a just peace rise
for this good and noble people,
may her blue and yellow flag
soar over every rooftop…

The blood of the dead in #Bucha – v6

The blood of the dead in Bucha,
Irpin, Izyum, Mariupol, Kharkiv,
Too many places to number,
like the brother of Cain, Abel,
their blood crying out from the soil,
for judgment, for justice, for victory…
 
“Never again”, we told them, a promise,
To the survivors, those who remember,
Would genocide happen in Europe,
never again would evil be in control,
yet while we debate in the halls of power,
the Tyrant and his army exact an awful toll…
 
The blood of the dead in Bucha,
Irpin, Izyum, Mariupol, Kharkiv,
Too many places to number,
other towns and cities ravaged,
shaking the conscience of humanity,
the European continent, the world beyond…
 
“Never again”, we told them, a promise,
We would never forget the slaughter,
But history is being repeated, again,
humanity shackled, hamstrung, silent,
unwilling or unable to stop the genocide,
atrocities in Ukraine, on its people,
Russia’s terror upon this nation-state…

Only to die in #Moscow – v2 #Assad

A pyrrhic victory only,
for a few moments, truly
though he may not know it,
his escape will be short-lived,
avoiding the assassin’s bullet…
 
His flight from his capital, Damascus,
under the cover of darkness, lies,
this madman, this unholy tyrant,
the brutal warlord running,
quickly, just in the nick of time…
 
But his protector is no hope for him,
for his days too are numbered,
his fate is self-evidence, prophetic,
escaping the noose in Damascus,
only to die in Moscow…

The fall of their tyrant – v2

With the whole world watching,
not believing our own eyes,
something extraordinary,
seemingly impossible, real,
advancing toward Damascus,
unfolding in real-time…
 
So quickly he fell from power,
paper dynasty, a lie, in truth,
overthrown by his people,
for freedom had come,
too long dormant, in hiding,
emotion overflowing, now…
 
How long he had ruled, brutally,
dictator, the strongman,
the fall of their tyrant,
escaping the gun, in flight,
tormentor of his people,
wait for the judgement seat…

So quickly he fell,
paper dynasty, a lie,

There is one Enemy, Russia – v2

Russia is anathema, a pariah,
but protected because of power,
their nuclear stockpile a threat,
to life on this whole earth…
 
There is one Enemy, Russia,
one clear and present danger;
There is one sponsor of terror,
above all others on earth…
 
Russia is a nation-state, evil,
bent on conquest, metastasizing,
growing unless it is stopped,
feeding on our weakness, ourselves…
 
There is one Enemy, Russia,
Tentacles, tendrils, growing, reaching,
seeking to dominate, to destroy,
an appetite cruel, unceasing, evermore…
 
Russia is the virus, the cancer, killing,
the malignant tumor growing, to be cut off;
It must be killed, removed, this threat,
before it kills more on this earth…

A domino, a proxy, falling – v2

Momentum building, inexorable,
the future becomes clearer,
day after day, more certain,
his time will come to an end,
he will have their fate…
 
A domino, a proxy, falling, toppled,
in days decades broken, vanished,
how soon will this fate befall him,
will he have the same end
or does death wait for him…
 
Will his end be an uprising, the people,
or will it rise from his inner circle,
an assassin, a friend, a colleague.
a storm, like a house of cards falling,
a cup of tea, an open window, calling…
 
His days are so surely numbered, counting,
spiraling into chaos, the ether, a cauldron,
his life not worth a farthing, a penny,
far less than a single kopek, dirt, dust,
his fate is in the pit, in the grave…
