Zipper Hoods

Flat hoods sit splayed on our backs
wool, buffalo plaid inside,
pulled forward, catch hair
before the snorkel coats
the ones we thought were cool
there were the coats
with the zipper hoods
decidedly not cool
hot and unpopular with all of us
forced to trudge to school in them
play in the yard, warm in the house
repeated all winter
when we were all less fashion prone
in the burbs
