She smiled at me,
with my bouquet of roses,
freshly brought
up from their hiding place
in the cold basement
hidden for a night,
to be ready for the morning
to share with my wife
on Valentine’s Day
Oh how I wish I had more
to give her, to show her
the depth of my love
the want for the best
for her each breath
of her day
Reading with joy,
the words of her card
to me, her friend, her husband
knowing the love she gave
in choosing the right one
Holding he so tight as we kissed
murmuring I love you’s
and Happy Valentine’s Day’s
in the still of the house
before the children awake
Quiet, precious time,
spent with her
My love
