Two Stories

Put together, as Luke intended,
as the Lord lived their meaning,
two stories of one day in the temple
minutes apart, or so it would seem
Of the scribe, touting the law,
without living its true meaning
the wealthy paying to the temple
out of their abundance
and the widow, the poor widow,
paying all she had, two meager copper coins
out of her faith, her trust in God
poor by the world’s standards,
unlearned perhaps as well
but understanding the law,
living righteously before God
as the others could not.
