Waking up on Friday

In the cities of Libya
the people stirring
from fitful slumber
tension, anxiety
their country gripped in strife

Waking up on Friday
on the day dedicated to prayer
preparing to go to their mosques
wondering what this day will offer
will they finally breathe the air

So long in stasis
under the yoke of his repression
bowing to the whims of the madman
not fully aware of his corruption
the steps that he would take

Learning only in part
the enormity of his atrocities
killing the innocents, his people
ignoring their cries for freedom
in a craven choke-hold on power
