Do We Mourn

Do we mourn
even for the death of evil
of a person
bent on our destruction

How can we be
servants of Jesus
when his death
leads us to cheer

To shout in the streets
happy for the killing
for the justice meted out
in his bedroom

No mercy, no quarter
none given, because none requested
dying in a hail of gunfire
choosing the coward’s path
