Black, black buckles
like grates of a pot-bellied
stove
on the front, extending
further
Clumpy black buckle boots
worn over shoes by many kids
bought on sale at Sears
for durability, for wear
Heavy rubber, no style
boots no child would choose
lined up in the coat room
with the wet bulky wool
coats
of second grade forty years
