In the Beginning, we were afraid
we knew our nakedness
biting into the flesh of the
fruit
of the forbidden tree;
We were hiding from God,
afraid;
we knew we had sinned.
“The fear of the Lord is the
beginning of wisdom”
the psalmist wrote, oh so
long ago;
We forget so often, so
quickly,
forget God is a jealous God;
We forget our weakness
without God,
that we have all sinned.
We walk in our own paths
each following our own false
idols,
graven images and temporal
pleasures;
So many opportunities of
epiphany lost
in our delusion, our self-reliance,
mired in our own sin.
We must cleave to the Lord;
We must follow His commands
to love one another
to share in the Good News;
Listen, Hear His still voice
burning within you now.
