I stood with the others on Golgotha,
I swung that heavy hammer,
I wielded the mallet,
I swung the sledge,
that crucified Christ…
 
My sin nailed Christ to the cross,
I hammered each of them,
thick, heavy spikes,

compassion for her - v2

compassion for her - v2

Christ saw Mary

His mother crying

even in His agony and pain;

He had compassion for her

hanging on the cross.

Seeking to comfort

to protect her

to provide for her

after He was gone,

as His life slipped away.

Christ saw John

His disciple crying

standing with Mary,

the other Mary,

at the foot of His cross.

Bringing them together

His body and ministry

stitching together family

providing for her

as He died in pain.

the model of Christ

even from the cross

in the midst of his anguish.

Praying for us

for our forgiveness

compassion, not death

as Christ died for us.
